Q: How do I book a boat trip?

Q: Where do we meet?
A: Almost all our trips depart from the Akaroa Main Wharf. This is easily found, with its blue buildings, on Beach Road. Walk along the wharf, past the blue buildings and down the ramp on your left. If Southern Wanderer is not alongside when you arrive we will be there soon. If another pickup location is used we will contact you.
Q: What do we need to bring
A: We recommend all our guests to bring suitable clothing and sun protection to cover all weather conditions. This includes sunglasses, sunscreen, hat, warm clothes, waterproof jacket, comfortable footware. There is room in our cabin to keep personal items dry so it is fine to bring cameras and phones etc.
Q: How long will I be on the boat?
A: Our scheduled trips (including Scenic Sunrise) run for approx 2 hours but we recommend allowing at least 2.5 hours for the whole experience.
Q: Is there a toilet onboard the boat?
A: Yes, our vessel Southern Wanderer has a marine toilet onboard, however we recommend that guests use the public toilets before boarding. These toilets are situated close to the Akaroa Main Wharf... at the south end of Brittomart Reserve, just before crossing the small bridge when walking towards the Lighthouse from the wharf.
Q: What am I going to see?
A: The locations we get to on a trip are influenced by the weather and sea conditions but we always try show you as much coastline as possible. Our vessel Southern Wanderer is fast, so this allows us to travel further and spend more time at the highlights. The peninsula's coastline that we explore displays amazing volcanic geology. We often observe many seabirds, including albatrosses, penguins, and other wildlife in their natural habitat.
Q: Are reservations essential?
A: If possible we advise you to book at least the day before. Depending on prior bookings, we can be flexible with departure times and can accept some same day bookings by phone. If our scheduled early-morning trip has been confirmed by bookings there may be space for walk-on passengers without booking.
Q: Can my children go?
A: Yes, reduced charges are for children up to 14 years of age. We will not usually take children under 3 years of age. (Note: We may take children under 3 years of age on private charters).
Q: What is our cancellation policy?
A: If a trip you have booked is cancelled by us for any reason we will refund your payment in full. If you cancel a booking more than 24 hours before the planned departure time we will refund your payment in full. Payments for bookings cancelled within 24 hours of the planned departure time will not be refunded.
